Choosing the why

I taught in a private school instructing other people's children with the fundamentals of their level of education. Each year I would see my style of teaching would need to change or adapt to the new class coming in. Why were the tips and tricks that I used last year not working on this years class? Children need many different ways to explore and navigate through lessons. There is no one singular way to teach a child.

My own children attended public school from 2019-2024. They had years of disrupted schooling from covid, bomb threats, and most recently a school shooting that happened within our district.
Struggling with "mommy guilt" to do what was best for my kids; I took a week to decide how I wanted to move forward with their education. One week. Enough time for the fears of my kids returning to school to have lessened. Enough time to research homeschooling and see what I would need to do. However, not so much time to dwell on the choice, overthink, and overwhelm myself with too much information.

I made an educated decision that best suit my kids, myself, and our family and I fell upon the realization that homeschool was the freedom that we needed.
  • Freedom to learn at our own pace.
  • Freedom to choose a curriculum that we best see fit.
  • Freedom to teach real life lessons.
  • Freedom to have fun and encourage creativity and critical thinking.
  • Freedom of comparing ourselves to others.
and...
  • Freedom to slow down and enjoy every minute.

Homeschooling isn't something for everyone. However, if you love the idea of slowing down and letting your littles choose their way of learning, follow along.

Thank you for reading,
Ms. Jamie
